Annual Finished Compost Distribution and Sale

Want to see the fruits of our labor? Each spring, we offer customers 40 pounds of finished compost included in their subscription. We provide more details to customers via email about distribution as we approach the annual event.

The honest truth is that this event is one of the hardest parts of our job, but we think it’s so important to see the end product created by the magic of composting. We also know our customers like using this garden gold around their homes, and we are thrilled to provide it.

Hopefully, as more people see how amazing organic soil amendment is for our gardens, plants, and the planet, our community of composters will grow and help us make composting cool (and the piles hot… of course).

Here are answers to some of our frequently asked questions. Any other questions? Just shoot us an email.

Where is the finished compost from? Is your compost organic?

We partner with a third party, My Kitchen Harvest, to process all of our food scraps from curbside collection customers. My Kitchen Harvest maintains its processing operation at Linvilla Orchards. The composting facility is permitted and inspected by the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection.

The finished compost we giveaway and sell to customers comes from My Kitchen Harvest’s composting facility, so you really get to experience zero waste, full circle use of your food scraps. The finished compost has been verified by the Organic Materials Review Institute (OMRI) for use in organic applications.

We might be biased, but this compost is of amazing quality. We think you’ll be pretty stoked about the quality of this locally-produced finished compost for your gardens and green spaces. Ditch the store-bought stuff for the community-based real deal (at least… we think you should). 🙂

How much compost is 40 pounds of compost?

We hand fill each bag of compost so we estimate the weight to be able twenty pounds per bag (each customer gets two bags). We fill two 14″ x 26″ sandbags per customer. They look like this and are roughly the size of your WasteWell bucket.

What if I want more than 40 pounds of compost?

Customers receive 40 pounds of compost for free and can purchase additional bags of finished compost during our annual spring compost distribution event.

If you just need a few additional bags, you can purchase them for $5 each and we will deliver them to you. Let us know how many you would like, and we will invoice you through your customer account.

If you’d like a bulk delivery of compost, we can work with you to have the same compost we provide delivered to you directly in bulk from Linvilla Orchards. Because we use My Kitchen Harvest (at Linvilla Orchards) to process your food scraps, we receive a discount on bulk orders and can share that discount with you. With this option, you pay Linvilla Orchards directly for the compost and delivery fee.

What if I don’t need finished compost?

No worries at all. We only provide compost to those customers who request it. If you don’t need it, we totally get it.

Can I order additional bags of compost later?

Maybe, but we can’t guarantee it.

We do not keep finished compost in stock. After soliciting requests from current customers for the number of bags of compost they would like to receive during our annual event, we place an order with our compost provider based on the demand.

Sometimes we have extra bags, and we are happy to sell these while they last. But once they run out, we will not have additional finished compost until next season’s annual spring giveback event.

Do I need to return the yellow bags?

The yellow bags are yours to keep, though we’re happy to take them back if you don’t have a use for them. We’re all about reducing waste, after all, so we will take them off your hands and reuse them if you otherwise intend to toss them in the trash.

If you want to return them to us, just leave them under your bucket or on top of your bucket (under a rock so they don’t blow away) on pick-up day, and we will grab them when we empty your bucket.
